Our client a hotel in Nairobi, Parklands area is in need of qualified individual to work as waiter or waitress


Job summary

To accurately and completely take food and beverage orders, efficiently serve food and beverages to customers and attend to customers' needs while ensuring marketing efforts are  made to enhance repeat and new business.


The Waiter or Waitress will be responsible for taking orders, serving food and beverages to guests while ensuring guest satisfaction by checking on customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any challenges.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Politely welcome customers as they enter the restaurant while introducing self to customers

2. Present menus to customers, answer inquiries about food and beverage items on the menu and offer food and wine suggestions

3. Take food and beverage orders accurately including any special requests and ensure they meet alcohol legal age requirements

4. Work with bartenders and kitchen staff to process and expedite food orders

5. Pre-set table (including decorations, condiments, napkins, utensils) for the orders, deliver and serve food at tables while using established food handling and serving techniques.

6. Ensure customers are satisfied with their food orders, beverages,  service and upsell food and beverage items throughout the meal

7. Maintain the table setting by clearing courses as completed, replacing utensils, refreshing water glasses, dealing with spills while complying with safety, health and hygiene policies and procedures

8. Process cash and credit card payments  

9. Perform any side-work as requested including online marketing among others


Knowledge and Experience

a. A  Diploma in hospitality sectors including hotel, customer service etc  

b. Knowledge of hygiene and sanitation standards

c. Knowledge of food and health codes

d. Working knowledge of beer, wine, liquor and common beverages

e. Working knowledge of food preparation

f. Able to fluently read and speak English and Kiswahili languages

g. Flexible and willing to work different schedules and ability to stand for long periods of time
